Strategic Planning:  August, 2005-Spring, 2007

Renewing the Vision differs from accreditation protocols previously used by Catholic elementary schools in membership with the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools.  Rather than focusing on the inputs of school improvement (facilities, program, services, etc), it centers on the school's vision for itself and its desired results.
Strategic planning is a systematic process that seeks to provide for the future.  It is not forecasting nor is it making future decisions.  It is a process of making today's decisions with the future in mind.  It aims to discover what should be done now to make desired outcomes happen at a later date.
Strategic planning is future-oriented and visionary.  It serves as a vehicle for school improvement and requires a commitment to operate from a vision of where the organization wants to need to be.
The benefits of strategic planning in Catholic education are numerous.  Strategic planning provides a process for Catholic school communities to:
--  identify their preferred future --  focus on growth and desired results --  involve various members of the Catholic school community --  strengthen the community's commitment and sense of ownership for the school --  determine goals and objectives for school improvement --  identify strategies for achieving their goals --  establish an on going process of review
