Reading is a great activity for those hazy, lazy days of summer. Here are some suggestions, hints, and forms to help make reading a great experience. Check the Grade to see specific instructions for your grade. Then, click on the pages below to move to the information.

All incomingSecond grade students may read any and as many books that they would like over the summer from their list. A book log should be kept and signed by the parents to be brought in the first day of school.

All incomingt hird graders are going to be reading Flat Stanley and doing a book report via a beach ball. A letter was sent home all of the details. I would like the class to use the reading list as a guide for them to choose books to read over the summer. Students are to use the literature circce paper for one of them. Students are to keep a log of the books they have read over the summer.

All incoming Fourth graders must read 1 biography OR 1 realistic fiction book AND 1 book of their choice from the elementary school Reading Olympics list. The students are to write on index cards, the title, author, genre, 3 new vocabulary words/meanings, and a pithy summary of the book. They are also to include why they liked or disliked these two books. This is due the first day of school.

 
 

5

All incoming 5th graders must read 2 books over the summer. Everyone will read; The Watsons Go to Birminham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis, the second book is a book of your choice from the elementary school reading olympics list. You are to bring in 6 index cards with 3 favorite quotes from each books, 3 new words you learned and what they mean from each book and one character they connected with in each book.

All incoming sixth graders: 1. Read any THREE books from your list (Middle grades 6-8). 2. Fill out a Summer Book Talk paper for EACH book you read (the three that are required from the list as well as any other books you read).

All incoming 8th graders will be required to pick three from the list.
